6 Easy Steps to Localize a LevelOne EDM

This is our updated tutorial regarding Amaya. They've released a newer version that is stable so please update your software accordingly.

As a WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) HTML editor, this is a useful tool that allows you to localize our marketing message for your region.

This tutorial will show you:

  • Where to download an easy-to-use, free HTML editor.
  • The proper steps to add your local language to our HTML newsletters.
  • The best way to keep the LevelOne format in tact, using clean HTML code.

Step 1: Download and Install Amaya 10.0. Amaya is a simple, easy to use HTML editor. It is free, open-source, and available in many languages. It is endorsed and promoted by the World Wide Web Consortium.

(Please note: DO NOT use Microsoft Word to edit HTML documents. Microsoft adds unnecessary code that will cause the EDM to get blocked and marked as spam.)

  1. Download Amaya 10.0 directly here for Windows (7.1MB ) or here for Mac Intel (12.4MB) or Mac PowerPC (13.2MB) .
  2. Once the file is downloaded, install using the on-screen instructions.

Step 2: Choose your language in Amaya.

(Available in German, English, Spanish, Finnish, French, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Georgian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Russian, Slovak, Turkish, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese)

  1. Open Amaya
  2. Go to "Edit" - "Preferences" - "General"
  3. Choose your language in the drop down menu.
  4. Click "Apply", then restart Amaya.

Now that you have the HTML editor, you can start to localize HTML files you want.

Step 3: Open the HTML file you want to localize in Amaya to start editing.

  1. Go to Amaya and hit "File" - "Open document".
  2. Search for the HTML document you just downloaded to your desktop. Click "Open".
  3. Done. The EDM should appear in full form on your screen. Now it's time to start editing.

Step 4: Edit the body of the document.

  1. Replace the English text with your language.
  2. Do not try to copy and paste sections: do the translation directly on the file in Amaya.
  3. Save regularly to make sure you don't lose your work. (CTRL + S)
  4. Go back and read your writing to check for any grammar or spelling mistakes.

Step 5: Change the "Unsubscribe" link.

(This helps you manage your email list if someone doesn't want to receive our EDM. You MUST remove them immediately if requested.)

  1. Highlight the "Unsubscribe" text.
  2. Click on the "Link" icon in the left panel.

Step 6: Change the "Contact us" link by the same procedure as Step 5. (This helps your customers to contact you for any inquiry.)

Congratulations, you've successfully localized your first LevelOne EDM! The first one always takes the longest; you'll see how fast and efficient Amaya really is after you do a couple more.

Sending out the EDM

Step 1: Make a new Group* in your email client.

*A new Group makes it easy to remove people that want to "Unsubscribe". You won't have to delete them completely from your address book.

  1. Microsoft Outlook Express: "Addresses" - "New" - "New Group"
  2. Label the Group "LevelOne Italy Newsletter" or the equivalent in your language. (The group name will be seen by the customers when the EDM is sent out.)
  3. Add the people you want to receive your EDM and click "Ok"
  4. The new Group is now created.

Step 2: Send the EDM using Internet Explorer Browser*

*Make sure Outlook or Outlook Express is the default email program: Go to "Tools" - "Internet Options" - "Programs" to verify the default email program.

  1. Find your newly modified HTML document in your language.
  2. Right click and "Open with" Internet Explorer.
  3. When you see the document in Internet Explorer Browser, go to the "Page" menu on the right.
  4. Go down and select* "Send Page by E-mail"
